Baggage Allowance to Pakistan (2026): Emirates, Qatar, flydubai & PIA

Quick answer
On flights to Pakistan, your fare name decides your kilos, not the airline. Emirates Economy gives 20, 25, 30 or 35 kg (Special, Saver, Flex, Flex Plus). Qatar Airways gives 20 to 35 kg (Lite to Comfort). flydubai gives 0, 20 or 30 kg (Lite, Value, Flex). PIA varies by route, so read your e-ticket.
Flying from the US or Canada? Emirates and Qatar count bags instead of kilos on those journeys, and most fares get two 23 kg bags.
Same flight, same wedding, 10 kg apart
Picture two cousins flying Emirates from Manchester to Lahore for the same December shaadi. One grabs the cheapest fare the night it drops. The other pays a little more two days later.
At the check-in desk, one of them gets 20 kg. The other gets 30.
Same aircraft. Same meal. Same uncle waiting at arrivals with a garland. The only difference is a word printed on the e-ticket that neither of them read: Special or Flex.
That's the thing most baggage articles for Pakistani travelers get wrong. While researching this post we kept finding local travel sites that state one flat number for an airline, usually "Emirates gives 30 kg from Pakistan." It does, on one fare. On the cheapest one you get 20, and at the counter that 10 kg gap costs real money.
So here's every number by fare, for the four airlines most people use to fly home, plus the part nobody puts in the same article: what customs lets you bring, and what your unused kilos are worth.
Emirates baggage allowance to Pakistan
Emirates uses the weight concept on Pakistan routes. You can check as many bags as you like, as long as the total stays inside your allowance and no single bag weighs more than 32 kg.
- Economy Special: 20 kg
- Economy Saver: 25 kg
- Economy Flex: 30 kg
- Economy Flex Plus: 35 kg
- Premium Economy: 35 kg
- Business: 40 kg
- Cabin bag (Economy): one piece, up to 7 kg
The exception is journeys to or from the Americas. Those switch to the piece concept: Economy Special gets one 23 kg bag, while Saver, Flex and Flex Plus get two bags of 23 kg each. Skywards Silver, Gold and Platinum members also get extra allowance on weight-concept routes, so check your tier before paying for more.
If you do need more weight, buying it online before you fly beats paying at the airport. We broke down the advance-purchase discounts in our Emirates baggage allowance guide for Pakistan. Full official rules sit on Emirates' checked baggage page.
Qatar Airways baggage allowance to Pakistan
Qatar Airways mirrors Emirates almost kilo for kilo. Pakistan routes use the weight concept, with a 32 kg cap on any single bag.
- Economy Lite: 20 kg
- Economy Classic: 25 kg
- Economy Convenience: 30 kg
- Economy Comfort: 35 kg
- Business: 40 kg
- Cabin bag (Economy): one piece, up to 7 kg, 50 x 37 x 25 cm
Coming from the US or Canada? Lite gets one 23 kg bag and every other Economy fare gets two. Note the Qatar cabin bag size is a touch smaller than Emirates', which catches people who switch between the two.
flydubai baggage allowance: the cheapest fare has no suitcase
This is the one that ruins budgets. flydubai's headline price from Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad is almost always the Lite fare, and Lite includes zero checked baggage. Just a 7 kg cabin bag.
- Lite: cabin bag only, no checked bag
- Value: 20 kg
- Flex: 30 kg
- Business: 40 kg
Lite is genuinely good if you're doing a short Dubai trip with one bag. For anything with a suitcase, compare the Value fare against Lite plus purchased baggage, and add the bag during booking, not at the airport. Dubai is also one of the easiest places to shop from, which we cover in how to order from Dubai and get it to Pakistan. The airline's own rules are on flydubai's checked baggage page.
PIA baggage allowance: trust your ticket, not a blog
We'll be straight with you. We couldn't find one current, official PIA table we'd stake a number on. Third-party listings we checked quoted anything from 20 kg to 40 kg for international Economy, and they disagree with each other.
Part of that is real: PIA sets allowances by route and by where your journey starts. In mid-2026 it raised the Pakistan–China Economy allowance to 50 kg, which shows how much one route can differ from another. PIA's direct UK flights also only came back this year after a five-year ban, and the airline changed hands in 2026, so older figures floating around the internet may not apply.
The fix takes ten seconds. Your e-ticket or booking page states your exact allowance. Screenshot it before you pack, and check PIA's website if anything looks off.
Which airline gives the most baggage to Pakistan?
On standard routes, Emirates, Qatar and flydubai all top out around 30 to 35 kg in Economy, so the real choice is which fare you book. Our take:
- Need 30 kg or more: Emirates Flex, Qatar Convenience or flydubai Flex. Compare those three prices, not the cheapest fares.
- One cabin bag, short trip: flydubai Lite is hard to beat.
- Flying from the US or Canada: the piece concept works in your favor. Two 23 kg bags on Emirates Saver or Qatar Classic is 46 kg, far more than the 25 kg those same fares get from London or Dubai.
- Flying PIA: go by your ticket, every time.
How many kilos do you actually use?
Here's a habit worth stealing. A week before you fly, pack your bag and weigh it on a luggage scale at home. The gap between that number and your allowance is space you've already paid for.
Say you're on Emirates Saver with 25 kg and your packed suitcase comes in at 19. That's 6 kg of paid-for space going home empty. Most people fill it with whatever's on sale at the airport. Some fill it with a cousin's request. Very few think of it as worth anything.
It is. On BRNG's for travelers page, our sample trips work out like this: Dubai to Lahore, 2 items in 3.2 kg, about PKR 6,000. London to Karachi, 1 item in 1.8 kg, about PKR 4,500. Toronto to Islamabad, 3 items in 4.5 kg, about PKR 9,500. That's roughly PKR 1,900 to 2,500 per kilo of space you weren't using.
Those are our pre-launch estimates, not live earnings, and real rewards depend on the item and the route. But the pattern holds. Light, valuable things are where the gap lives: sneakers, a hair tool, a palette that won't ship to Pakistan. A 15 kg air fryer isn't worth anyone's suitcase. Run your own numbers on the BRNG earning calculator.
Baggage allowance vs customs allowance: they're different limits
Your airline decides how much weight you can carry. Pakistan Customs decides what you can bring in without paying duty. You can be fully inside one and over the other.
- New items: duty-free value limits scale with how long you were abroad. We list them in our Pakistan customs allowance guide.
- Phones: overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors can temporarily register one phone tax-free for up to 120 days per visit through PTA's DIRBS portal. A phone you bring as a gift is different. It needs full PTA registration and tax, covered in our PTA tax guide.
- Cash: there's no cap on what you bring in, but foreign currency above US$10,000 has to be declared on arrival.
- Consoles and big electronics: allowed, but they count against your duty-free limit. See can I bring a PS5 into Pakistan.
- Never pack: alcohol, narcotics, weapons, or several identical units of one item. Five of the same thing looks like stock, not luggage.
How many cigarettes can you carry on a flight to or from Pakistan?
This question shows up in our search data more than almost anything else, so here's the short version. The limit belongs to the country you land in, not the one you leave.
- Flying into Pakistan: 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 500 g of tobacco duty-free under the Baggage Rules.
- Flying into the UAE: Dubai Customs allows travelers aged 18+ up to 400 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 500 g of tobacco.
- Flying into Saudi Arabia: duty-free cigarette purchases are capped at 200 per traveller. Check ZATCA's current rules before you fly.
Anything over these limits gets charged duty. Pack cigarettes in either bag, but lighters are different: carry one small lighter on your person and keep it out of checked luggage.
A five-minute baggage check before you fly to Pakistan
- Find your fare name on the e-ticket. Special, Saver, Lite, Value: that word is your allowance. What goes wrong: you pack for the airline's "usual" 30 kg and you're on a 20 kg fare.
- Check if your journey counts kilos or pieces. Starting in the US or Canada usually means pieces. What goes wrong: two 18 kg bags are fine on pieces, while one 35 kg bag isn't, because 32 kg is the cap per bag almost everywhere.
- Weigh at home, not at the counter. A cheap luggage scale pays for itself the first time it saves you an airport excess charge.
- Buy extra weight online, early. Airport rates are the most expensive way to carry more.
- Keep receipts for new items in your hand luggage. If Customs asks what something cost, a receipt ends the conversation fast.
- Register your phone after you land. PTA's temporary registration starts from your arrival date, so you can't do it before the flight.
Where BRNG fits
If you're flying home anyway, those spare kilos can do something useful. On BRNG, a buyer in Pakistan posts a product link, you see the delivery reward before you accept anything, and you only take items you're comfortable carrying. The buyer's payment sits in escrow and releases to you when they confirm delivery. No chasing anyone for money at arrivals.
Honest disclaimer: BRNG is still pre-launch, so this winter's flights are on you. If you'd like to carry for buyers once we go live, see how BRNG works and join the waitlist as a traveler. Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad launch first, and waitlist signups decide the order.
Final takeaway
Read the fare name before you pack. It decides your kilos, Customs decides your duty, and the gap between what you pack and what you paid for is worth more than you think.
FAQs
- It depends on your fare. Economy Special gets 20 kg, Saver 25 kg, Flex 30 kg and Flex Plus 35 kg, with no single bag over 32 kg. Journeys to or from the Americas use two 23 kg bags on most fares instead.
- Only on Value (20 kg) and Flex (30 kg) fares. The cheapest Lite fare includes a 7 kg cabin bag only, so add checked baggage during booking if you need a suitcase.
- On most routes Emirates, Qatar Airways and flydubai all offer 30 to 35 kg on their higher Economy fares, so the fare matters more than the airline. From the US or Canada, two 23 kg bags on Emirates or Qatar gives 46 kg.
- Pakistan allows 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 500 g of tobacco duty-free. Anything above that can be charged customs duty on arrival.
- The limit is set by the UAE, where you land. Dubai Customs allows travelers aged 18 and over up to 400 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 500 g of tobacco duty-free.
- Overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors can temporarily register one phone tax-free for up to 120 days per visit through PTA's DIRBS portal after arriving. Phones bought as gifts or kept permanently need full PTA registration and tax.
- There's no upper limit on bringing money in, but foreign currency worth more than US$10,000 must be declared to Customs on arrival.
